Nearly Bugless Splat

The MMC held its 11th Annual Bug Splat Rally last night. Can we call it that even if we skipped the year? The first one was in 1999 and for some reason there wasn’t one in 2002. OK, let’s call it the 10th Annual…

We had six cars manned by 11 wannabe exterminators show up for Mediterranean food before taking it to the street. Maybe the rain showers in the area scared a few participants off, I know it scared off the bugs. We dodged the rain and almost all of the bugs too.

The Biggest Bug Trophy ended up in the hands a new member couple, Dave & Devona Eastman, with their 3″ long streak of moth wing dust. The Closest to the Target was awarded to a small speck of suspected insect about a half inch away from Avery Green Dot on Bumblebee piloted and navigated by a pair of Schumachers. Once again Most Bugs, Garners, and Cleanest Car, Wilmoths, Awards were given to the cars that showed up for the run in that condition. The only folks that didn’t come home winners were the Bogarduses, who in spite of having the lead car advantage, finished in mid pack of of all the categories and last year’s Biggest Bug trophy winner, Denny Smith, whose wife will be ecstatic that he wouldn’t be bringing that monstrosity home again.

2008 Bug Splat

Date: Saturday, August 9th

The slightly early start and the two brief rain showers we ran through on the loop conspired to make bugs scarce. Autumn Schumacher retains the Biggest Bug Trophy mostly because the bug that was on the nose of the car had legs. Carol Haff won the Closest to the Dot award. The Cleanest Car and Most Bugs awards were given out based on pre-rally car conditions with Rudy Wilmoth and Gail Shaw-Butler winners respectively.

Miatas!

2007 Bug Splat Wrap Up & Snaps

A nice representation of Club members dined at Zaxby’s before heading out for a drive around the lake: Bill & Bonnie Baugh, Brian & Donna Bogardus, John Bowles, John & Jackie Nicholls, David & Autumn Schumacher, Denny Smith, Rudy & Patti Wilmoth and Dave & Bobbie Winkler. Lonnie Best joined us for the meal with his new to him 2003 Shinsen Edition Miata. He had come out to the Peach Parade in June with intentions to join us more often, but an inattentive driver made a left turn in front of him totaling his Miata.

  • Dave & Autumn took home a Zoom-Zoom Enthusiast’s Picnic Basket along with the Biggest Bug trophy.
  • John & Jackie were awarded a neat Zoom-Zoom bag loaded with cleaning supply samples for having the Most Bugs.
  • Rudy & Patti snagged the Enthusiast’s Cafe Tote for Two because they had the Fewest Bugs.
  • And Bill & Bonnie took home a Zoom-Zoom Folding Stadium Blanket for geting a bug splat closet to their Anticipated Green Dot Target.
