Club Spring Picnic

Location: The Outing Club in Aiken, SC. The Outing Club is located, appropriately enough, on Outing Club Rd which is off the 118 By-pass about 2 miles from USC Aiken. The entrance gate (33.595227, -81.762587) will have some balloons on it. If you can’t find the club, call Bob at 803-270-4774. Or follow Brian & Donna on the optional drive (see below.)

This event is Rain or Shine.

The Outing Club is located on an 11 acre pond with a club house that was build in 1940. There is a large open room that seats about 40 and a kitchen. The front porch is built over the water with a view of the trees reflecting on the pond. There is a large outdoor covered cook house with a charcoal grill that has cooked a “million” burgers and steaks. Bring what you wish for the picnic including drinks, adult beverages are welcome at the club. Ice and charcoal for the grill will be furnished.

Bring your fishing equipment and any outdoor games or board games you may want to play. Bob will bring a horse shoe set and Bocce Ball. Bring someone you know who might like to join Masters Miata Club.

Any questions feel free to contact me.
Event Coordinator: Bob & Pat Tarrant 803-270-4774

Meet at 10:30 AM at the usual Greg’s Gas+, soon to be Sprint, on Martintown Rd and we’ll take a fairly direct, no Interstate drive to get to the Outing Club. Route

2019 Aiken Spring Steeplechase

Steeplechase Miata2

Tom and Sue Varallo have offered the Miata Club the use of their inside rail spot (#471) for the 53rd running of the Aiken Spring Steeplechase, as Tom will be, as usual, helping put on the event itself. The space is 100′ long by 12′ wide and can easily accommodate 2 cars or trucks, a canopy/tent, and plenty of tailgating space.

We will have a small gas grill and a small charcoal one as well. We already have a couple of awnings and tables, but another folding table might be welcome. We will have some hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken & veggie shish kabobs. Plus there will also be a couple of snack items available, but please bring something with you. There might be a few extra beverages already, but please bring the liquid refreshment of your choice with you.

Tickets are $25 per person in advance and $40 on the day of the event. They can be purchased locally at Aiken County Visitors Center, Aiken Drug, Aiken Saddlery & Supply, Floyd & Green Jewelers, Plum Pudding, Parks Pharmacy, Unique Expressions, USC Aiken, and ALL Security Federal Bank Locations. Or as easy as pie from the modern miracle that is the internet from HERE as long as you do it before March 15th.

You have a few parking options, a) get lucky and find a spot on the surrounding streets for free, b) pay to park on the polo field across the street from the venue $20 in advance and $30 on the day, or c) park at Bogardus Estate which is about a mile away.

Gates open at 9:00 AM with the first race going off at 1:00 PM. The 6th and last race starts at around 4:00 PM. Because this is pretty much an all day event, if you are going, please contact Brian and/or Donna to work out some logistics. We strongly recommend arriving early and/or carpooling, not only for the cost savings, but also for the savings in aggravation of sitting in long traffic lines.
