April Meeting Minutes

Where: Ferrando’s in Aiken, SC
When: April 2, 2009
Who: Donna & Brian Bogardus, Gail & Miller Butler, John & Jackie Nicholls, Dave & Autumn Schumacher, Patti & Rudy Wilmoth and Dave Winkler.

Treasurer’s Report: $1,062.98.

Past Events :

  1. March’s meeting at the Asian Buffet attracted the usual crowd and the food was better than remembered from the last visit.
  2. March’s breakfast at the Hard Hard Cafe in Graniteville was just what the MMC’s Director of Morning Repasts had in mind, respectable chow washed down with good coffee from a free flowing pot served by a waitress who calls everyone Hon’.

Future Events:

  1. April Breakfast (4/18) will be hosted by Dave Winkler at the Sunrise Grill in Augusta, GA and hopefully the food there is on par with the one in North Augusta, SC.
  2. A group is heading up to the Abbeville Opera House on April 25th to see a show. The lunch spot was still being worked out.
  3. Hilarity will ensue when the Nicholls’ unleash their yearly TSD Rally on May 2nd.
  4. The location for breakfast in May is being cooked up (pun intended) by Rudy & Patti.
  5. The Schumachers will be representing the Club at the 20th Anniversary national gathering in Dallas over Memorial Day weekend. Miata World II, like the first one 10 years ago, will be giving away a brand new Miata to one of the registrants, wish them luck.

Actual Business:

  1. Yeah right?

May’s meeting will be at Formosa II in Augusta.

March Meeting Minutes

Where: Asian Buffet in North Augusta, SC
When: March 5, 2009
Who: Bill & Bonnie Baugh, Donna & Brian Bogardus, John & Jackie Nicholls, Dave & Autumn Schumacher, Patti & Rudy Wilmoth and Dave Winkler.

Treasurer’s Report: $1,049.98.

Past Events :

  1. February’s breakfast to the Lakeside Restaurant in Waynesboro, GA was a success. The only way it could have been better is if it was a few degrees warmer and we could have dined on the back deck overlooking the lake.
  2. Big shout out to Dave Schumacher for arranging this year’s Anniversary Dinner (#16) at the General Elliot Inn in Aiken. It was just the right mixture of down home and elegance, good food and fine dining. Plus as a bonus, it was just far enough away, that hardly anybody realized he snuck in a drive before the usual Supper Club gathering.

Future Events:

  1. The March Breakfast will be at the Hard Hat Cafe in Graniteville, SC. You know it is going to be good just by its name.
  2. The Big Mo Drive In event will be moved to April because the drive in doesn’t even open until the last weekend in March.

Actual Business:

  1. None

April’s meeting will be at Ferrando’s Italian Pizzeria in Aiken.

February Meeting Minutes

Where: Veracruz Mexican Restaurant #2 in Augusta, GA
When: February 5, 2009
Who: Bill & Bonnie Baugh, Donna & Brian Bogardus, Gail & Miller Butler, Larry & Rita Garner, John & Jackie Nicholls, Dave & Autumn Schumacher and Patti & Rudy Wilmoth.

Treasurer’s Report: $1,214.98.

Past Events :

  1. The Planning Meeting was raucous as usual and a lot of event ideas were bandied about, but only a small portion were really set in stone. Those of you who volunteered for something will need to do one of two things, a) log in to the web site (you do remember how to do that right?) and enter the details or b) send said details to the webmaster and he will put it on the interweb for you.
  2. The January breakfast was well attended, but afterward because it was so cold, most everyone hightailed it back to their heated homes before the warmth of coffee consumed could wear off.

Future Events:

  1. The February Breakfast will be on the the 21st and Rally Master Dave Schumacher was evasive as to location, but he did say that there would be a drive involved (hey, after all we are a car club.)
  2. The annual Club Anniversary Banquet will be held at the General Elliot Inn about 8 miles east of downtown Aiken in the wilds of Aiken County on Saturday, February 28th. There will likely be 4 different entree choices, steak, chicken, lamb or crab cakes ranging from $18 -$26 each. The Club will kick in a stipend, the total of which comes from a complicated formula that is inversely proportional to the amount of people who show up and directly proportional to how much we have over a grand in the bank.

Actual Business:

  1. nichts

The March meeting will be at the Asian Buffet in North Augusta, SC on the 5th.

January Meeting Minutes

Where: Eejay’s in Aiken, SC
When: January 9, 2009
Who: Bill & Bonnie Baugh, Donna & Brian Bogardus, Kurt Breitinger, Gail & Miller Butler, Larry & Rita Garner, John & Jackie Nicholls, Dave & Autumn Schumacher, Stacey Timmerman, Rudy Wilmoth and Dave Winkler.

Treasurer’s Report: $1284.07.

Pre Meeting Chatter:

  1. Turns out the porn industry, in the guise of Larry Flynt, is asking Washington for a $5 billion federal bailout, claiming that they are suffering from the soft economy. [Insert various adult puns here.] The Club’s treasury is a little light right now to do anything collectively, but individual members should feel free to help out in any way they can.

Actual Business:

  1. Hammering out a schedule for the upcoming year’s events.
    • We harangued 6 people or couples into volunteering to arrange two each of the 3rd Saturday of the month Miatas for Breakfasts. Bogardus, Garner, Nicholls, Schumacher, Wilmoth & Winkler.
    • Four events with actual dates were generated, April 25th a trip to Abbevile to see a play, June 20th the Peach Parade, July 4th a pool party at the Butlers & July 11th is the Bug Splat.
    • There were 11 other events planned for through out the year, but right now their dates and or purpose are tentative, vague or mere speculation at best. Check the web site frequently.

The February meeting will be at Veracruz Mexican Restaurant #2 in Augusta.

November Meeting Minutes

Where: Rae’s Coastal Cafe in Augusta, GA
When: November 6, 2008
Who: Donna & Brian Bogardus, Kurt Breitinger, Gail & Miller Butler, Larry & Rita Garner, Carol & John Haff, John & Jackie Nicholls, Dave & Autumn Schumacher and Patti & Rudy Wilmoth.

Treasurer’s Report: $1,296.65.

Past Events :

  1. The October breakfast had to be moved across the parking lot to a Sonic when it turned out that Just Fresh doesn’t open until 11 AM on Saturdays.
  2. After breakfast Stacey & Cindy Timmerman lead the three other Miatas to Edgefield where our first stop was a first for our Miata Club, a graveyard. This one was behind the Edgefield First Baptist Church and is the final resting place of perhaps South Carolina’s most famous citizen, Strom Thurmond. From there we visited the Discover Center of the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor which turned out to be a nice little museum and well worth the visit. After there the Club headed over to visit an antebellum home, Oakley Park.
  3. For the Leaf Peeping Rally there were 3 cars worth for breakfast at the Cracker Barrel, but only one car for the actual peeping portion.

Future Events:

  1. November 15th is this month’s breakfast. Meet 8:00 AM at Sugar Magnolia Cafe located in Downtown Aiken a couple doors down from Plum Pudding at 316 Richland Ave W
  2. Club Christmas Party, AKA International Holiday Party, will be on Friday December 12th at the Miller’s. Same format as last year, with a short meeting before hand.
  3. Sunday, December 21st will be the last Club breakfast for the year, the famous Sunday Buffet at the Partridge Inn. Meet at 11:00 AM and the cost is $21.95 $18.95 per person.

Actual Business:

  1. Zippo

The December meeting will be just before the party at the Butlers on December 12th.
