Meeting Minutes for March 5th 2015

Where: Best Bites Mediterranean – We met at the restaurant, ordered our food, and had a short meeting while waiting for our food.

Who: Karen and Kurt Breitinger, Miller and Gail Butler, Mike and Shirley Dyer, Dave and Davona Eastman, Larry Garner, John and Carol Haff, Dennis and Karol Mason, John and Jackie Nicholls, Hal and Trudy Scott, Tom Varallo, Richard and Evelyn Whitehurst, Rudy and Patty Wilmoth, David and Sue Woomer and new members Karl Painter and his wife (I’m sorry I didn’t get your wife’s name).

Treasurer’s Report: Income from Dues (Painter): $1271.47.

• Larry Garner has more cards to tuck under windshield wipers or handout to prospective members.

New Business:
• Thanks to Dave and Sue Woomer for coordinating this dinner. Even though we were disappointed with the service here we appreciate you taking the time to coordinate it.
• There is a Cars & Coffee event held every 1st Saturday in the Carolina Pottery shopping center on Washington Rd. It’s from 8-11 am. Bring your car to show it off!
• New members Mr. and Mrs. Painter have a 2004 Silver Miata with a red/black interior – Welcome!

The following events have been planned or are anticipated:
• March 26-28 – Miata’s at Myrtle Beach, everyone will be staying at the Sea Mist Resort. We had a good time last year. Drives, tours, games and prizes. Rain or shine (they use the covered parking garage)
• April 2nd – dinner coordinated by Jackie Nicholls
• April 4th – Tech Day at Kurt Breitinger’s house in Spring Lakes.
• April 4th is also Cars & Coffee
• April 18th breakfast – open
• May 2nd – dinner coordinated by the Dyers

Kurt Breitinger will race Mar 21-22nd Qualifications for Road Atlanta in Braselton GA.

If you have a good idea for a drive or place to go, please bring it to a meeting and we can put it on the calendar.

5 February Dinner meeting

Where: BBQ Barn in North Augusta – We met at the restaurant, ordered our food, ate, and then had a short meeting.

Who: David Adcock, Kurt Breitinger, Miller and Gail Butler, David Eastman, Larry and Rita Garner, Alan and Jill Johnson, Dennis and Karol Mason, John and Jackie Nicholls, Hal and Trudy Scott, Tom Varallo and Rudy and Patty Wilmoth.

Treasurer’s Report: No Activity, balance carried over: $1281.47.

Old Business:
• New members please see Dennis Mason for name tags.

New Business:
• Thanks to Tom Varallo for coordinating this dinner. The food was good and they had a nice big room for us all even though we didn’t all sit at one table.
• We were glad to see John and Jackie attend tonight.
• There is a Cars & Coffee event held every 1st Saturday at the Sunrise Grill in Augusta on Washington Rd. (in the Carolina Pottery shopping center). It’s from 8-11 am. Bring your car to show it off!

January 8th Meeting Minutes

When: January 8th 2015

Where: Ming Yat Chinese restaurant in North Augusta – We met at the restaurant, ordered our food, ate, and then had a meeting and planning session for this year’s events.

Who: David Adcock, Kurt Breitinger, Larry Garner, Dennis and Karol Mason, Hal and Trudy Scott and Tom Varallo.

Treasurer’s Report: John Nicholls not present, no report; Balance carried over: $1281.47.

Old Business:
• Christmas dinner was really good and Casa Bella was a very nice location! We had a great turnout and I don’t think we could have squeezed another person into the room or at the tables. The white elephant gift exchange is always great fun!

New Business:
• Thanks to Larry and Rita for coordinating this dinner and planning meeting. The food was good and had large plates full of food and most everyone had some to take home.
• Mazda had their best sales year ever this year and December was their 23rd best sales month in a row.
• There is a Cars & Coffee event held every 1st Saturday at the Sunrise Grill in Augusta on Washington Rd. (in the Carolina Pottery shopping center). It’s from 8-11 am. Bring your car to show it off!
• John Clark is on his honeymoon with Pat – Congratulations to the happy couple!
• Officer nominations will be taken in May, election will be held in June and new officers will take over in July.

• January 17th breakfast – Krispy Kreme on Hwy 25 (Peach Orchard) across from the Post Office, 8:00 am.
• February 5th dinner – Tom Varallo is planning it. It may occur on February 6th because that is when the Iron Chef competition is being held at Red Oak Manner in Harlem and there were several couples who went to the brunch there that expressed an interest. Tom will let us know. If so, the cost is $25 per person but expect a gourmet meal.
• February 7th – Cars & Coffee (explained above)
• February 21st breakfast – Dennis & Karol Mason will plan.
• March 5th dinner – Dave and Sue will plan.

• Also June 4th is Zoomin’ in the Mountains (of Tennessee). In the past they have gotten lap time on Bristol Speedway.
• June 20th breakfast – open
• June 20th is also Trenton Peach Parade and Stacy Timmerman will coordinate.

We also have a list of possible destinations if anyone would be interested in planning but we’re open to all kinds of ideas!

Attend a Road Race in Atlanta; Terrapin Brewery tour in Athens; Air Museum tour at Warner Robbins (free); Drive to Helen or Brasstown Bald, Telleco Plains or Chiricahua Skyway; Plant Vogtle tour; Movie at the Monetta, SC Drive-In (Big Mo); Trudy suggested a Bluegrass Festival held every 4th Saturday (Trudy I didn’t catch where it was, sorry!) there is a “Bluegrass Festival in the Woods” in Anderson SC in September 17th to 19th; or everyone likes the Juniper Restaurant in Ridge Spring, SC.

Or, if you have a good idea please bring it to a meeting and we can put it on the calendar.

Where: Villa Europa in Augusta – We met at the restaurant, ordered our food and then had a quick meeting.

Who: David Adcock, Kurt Breitinger, John Clark, Mike and Shirley Dyer, David and Devona Eastman, Larry and Rita Garner, Dennis and Karol Mason, Hal and Trudy Scott, Tom Varallo and a new couple Christopher and Donna Hoops.

Old Business:
• Thanks to Tom Varallo for coordinating the breakfast at Red Oak Manor and the tour of the Oliver Hardy Museum and Fine Mess Old Car Museum!

• Looks like it was a good call on not doing the Leaf Peep since the weather was so bad – turns out they got about 22” of snow!

New Business:
• Thanks to Larry & Rita for planning tonight’s dinner!
• New members Chris & Donna Hoops were present. They have an ’04 Mazda Speed and a ’96 Mazda that has a blown head gasket – they could use some help with repairs or recommendations.
• Ernie has sold his Miata and bought a BMW and is no longer a member. We’ll miss him.

Upcoming Events:
• 15 November – John and Jackie Nicholls have planned a Breakfast at Wrap Em Up Crepes and Café in North Augusta. Optional drive afterwards. More info on the website.
• Christmas Party – Date: First Friday (December 5th) at Casa Bella in Aiken.

We have nothing planned for January and are hoping someone who hasn’t coordinated before will plan something for us. We’re open to all kinds of ideas!

We’ll have a planning meeting for events in 2015 sometime in January – to be announced.

We’ll have a new officers selection meeting sometime in June.

October 2nd Meeting Minutes

When: October 2nd 2014

Where: JB Buffet in North Augusta – We met at the restaurant, picked our food from the buffet and then had a quick meeting.

Who: David Adcock, Kurt Breitinger, Orlando and Sandy Carlo, Mike and Shirley Dyer, Larry and Rita Garner, Linda and Mark Hoelper, Alan and Jill Johnson, Dennis and Karol Mason, Tom Varallo, and Evelyn and Richard Whitehurst.

Treasurer’s Report: John Nicholls (treasurer) not present but sent the report; Beginning Balance: $1,166.47 added $320.00 in dues and magnet sales, minus $205 in expenses leaves an ending balance of $1281.47.

Old Business:
• Thanks to John Haff and Brian Borgardus for coordinating the drive and day at Panic Motorsports! Great place for breakfast, fun drive with 10 Miata’s plus 2 support vehicles, great day!

New Business:
• Thanks to John and Jackie Nicholls for planning tonight’s dinner!
• Larry has looked in to ordering window clings, turns out they are pretty darn expensive now vs. when Brian ordered them. A decision may be made to order more magnets.
• A little more info on the new Miata has been released, it will have a 1.4 turbo engine, plus there was a little more released on the new motor. Mazda will release more info at future motor shows.
• We have 3 new members: Al Shure who has a Red ’91; Christopher and Donna Hoops who have a White ’96 and a Gray ’04; and Douglas and Bee Martins who have a ’91 and a ’97.  Al Shure and the Hoops were not in attendance but Douglas Martins was tonight.

Upcoming Events:
• 18 October – Breakfast and Scavenger Hunt. Dave Winkler, if you’re still planning on this please contact Brian or Larry so we can confirm.
• 1 November – Leaf Peeping, 10-12 hour drive to see the fall colors. Meet at Cracker Barrel off Exit 194 at I-20 at 7:00 am or meet up a little later before we begin the drive. More info on that on the website.
• Christmas Party – Date: First Friday (December 5th) at Casa Bella in Aiken. Thank you Shirley Dyer for coordinating!
