BBQ Cook-Off, Save the Pigs Party

Place: Columbia SC Fairgrounds

Event description: SAVE THE PIGS PARTY. I went to this last year and really enjoyed it. 20th Annual BBQ Cook-off Festival at the SC State Fairgrounds. (Of course last year it was the nineteenth annual…..) This two-day fundraiser pits cookers from all over the state of South Carolina against each other to see who can create the best tasting BBQ. All the proceeds from the event benefit Carolina Children’s Home and the many children it serves. Originally founded as an orphanage, the Home is one of the state’s largest treatment centers for abused or abandoned young people.

7 pm – 10 pm — Friday Night’s SAVE THE PIGS party is an anything but pork event! For $8 a ticket or 2 for $15, enjoy music and taste-test samples of numerous Southern specialties prepared by the 40+ cooking teams from across the region. Food samples are served as long as the delicious dishes last and the terrific band, the Sensational Epics, will play from 7-10 p.m. Beer, water and sodas are for sale at the event.

In order to minimize the drive for our Aiken friends, we’ll meet at the McDonalds parking lot at US 20 exit 22 (highway 1). If we meet at 6:30 we should get there while there’s plenty of food! Link below. Bring cash and your appetite. John

A Day At The Track

Where: Road Atlanta

When: Saturday, March 17th, following the MMC breakfast.

Event Coordinator: Carol Haff 706-868-5795

For anyone who is available on Saturday, John is going to be racing at Road Atlanta. He is going to be running Time Trials with the NASA folks. There are somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 who have signed up for the weekend event, and they will be running high performance driving events, time trials and road races. You will see all different kinds of cars, with many Miatas, corvettes, mustangs, even a Ferrari, and everything in between. John is scheduled to run at 10:30, 1:30 and 4:10, with 20-minute sessions each. We invite you to come down and do some spectating and walking around. Weather permitting, Rudy & and Patti are driving down after the club breakfast, and they have graciously agreed to lead if anyone wants to follow. Please note they are charging a $10/person admission fee to get in the gate for all spectators. We would love to see you there!
