A Day At The Track

Where: Road Atlanta

When: Saturday, March 17th, following the MMC breakfast.

Event Coordinator: Carol Haff 706-868-5795

For anyone who is available on Saturday, John is going to be racing at Road Atlanta. He is going to be running Time Trials with the NASA folks. There are somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 who have signed up for the weekend event, and they will be running high performance driving events, time trials and road races. You will see all different kinds of cars, with many Miatas, corvettes, mustangs, even a Ferrari, and everything in between. John is scheduled to run at 10:30, 1:30 and 4:10, with 20-minute sessions each. We invite you to come down and do some spectating and walking around. Weather permitting, Rudy & and Patti are driving down after the club breakfast, and they have graciously agreed to lead if anyone wants to follow. Please note they are charging a $10/person admission fee to get in the gate for all spectators. We would love to see you there!

March Meeting Minutes

The nasty weather kept a few people at bay, including the Secretary, so Patti stepped up and scribbled the meeting minutes on several napkins. Here is the best guess as to what she wrote down:

Attendees: Donna & Brian Bogardus, Bill & Bonnie Baugh, Jackie & John Nicholls, Patti & Rudy Wilmoth, Kurt & Karen Breitinger & Family, Gail & Miller Butler and Stacy Timmerman

Treasurer’s Report: $1,347.49

Old and New Business:

  1. Kurt might want a tech day change to March 24. He will let us know.
  2. The March 17th breakfast is still on the calendar. Details are posted on the web site.
  3. Auto Fair is off the calendar unless someone wants to take the lead.
  4. Kurt added Walter Mitty on April 28. He will come up with some details. Watch this space.
  5. Stacy talked to Rachel at the Snowcap. She has a Sponsor for the Saturday Cruise-Ins – Yearwood Speed & Customs in Evans, GA. Gascar has agreed to be the permenant “hosts”, but there will still be a Featured Club. Rachel wanted us there on May 26 from 6-8. Since it is Memorial Day weekend, Stacy will see if he can get a different date.
  6. The April monthly meeting is changed to April 12 because of Master’s week. It will be in Martinez at the Mia Rancho on Belair and Columbia Road. Hopefully John Haff (actually Carol) will arrange for the room!!

Something a bit simpler this month. We will meet at the restaurant. No after-breakfast drive is planned, but it might be a good time to hit the Home Depot or Lowes afterward to get a jump start on the Honey-Do list.

BMW Ultimate Drive

BMW Ultimate DriveIt is time again for the BMW Ultimate Drive for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here is a link to the event site: Ultimate Drive. You can reserve up to two cars and a time to drive them, but even if there is nothing left to reserve, if you just show up and hang around you should be able to drive something whenever there is a free car.

The tour will be at Taylor BMW in Augusta (30909) on Thursday, March 15th, and at Hancock BMW in Columbia (29201) on Thursday, March 29th. Donna and I are planning on taking the afternoon off both days to go drive BMWs for a good cause. If you don’t want to take time off from work to drive, you will also have a chance for a Saturday on the 17th, if you wouldn’t mind driving to Century BMW in Greenville, SC (29601).

Here is a link to pictures and a link to my long winded blog post about our last year’s drive.

February Breakfast Trip Photos

Parking Lot Shot Parking Lot Shot 2 Egg Tower Parking Lot Shot 3
A crowd gathers in the very chilly predawn darkness in the Food Lion parking lot. The Krispy Kreme doughnuts helped.
Our little Miatas looked slightly out of place in the parking lot of our breakfast spot. Don’t let the sun fool you, it wasn’t any warmer than at the start.
The giant compartmentalized egg shaped tower across the street from Bill & Fran’s keeps the place supplied with egs for scrambling, coffee and orange juice.
After breakfast we all went over to the post office to see if anyone we knew were on the wanted posters.
Parolees Closed Antique Store Open Hardware Store Opera House
Turns out we were all wanted for overeating, so we went across the street to register with our parole officer.
There were plenty of antique stores to shop at, if only they were open.
One place that was open was an old timey hardware store with it’s very own Nobel Prize in Physics.
The opera house wasn’t open either, but if we wanted to hang around for another 10 hours or so we could see the “Philip Myers Project Pet Benefit.”
