Do you know where “Miataville” is located? Well, you won’t find it on any map, and you can’t get there by driving your Miata (or any other car for that matter). Miataville does exist, however, and all you need to get there and enjoy its attractions is a personal computer. Miataville exists inside a giant computer located in Columbus, Ohio at a unique place called CompuServe.

CompuServe is the world’s biggest OLIS (On-line Information Service) and can be accessed by anyone with a personal computer and a modem over a standard telephone line. CompuServe offers many information services such as investment information, airline schedules, news wire service, shopping services, games, electronic mail (E-Mail), encyclopedias, databases, and even a “CB” channel where you can talk to other people on the channel via your keyboard.

There are also various group “forums” on assorted subjects such as computers, software, hobbies, sports, etc. In this forum there is also a special category called “Miataville,” which is an area specifically for Miata owners to share information, articles, latest happenings and news, problems, and anything at all related to Miatas.

The heart of Miataville is a message board & a library full of articles, news and gossip submitted by Miata owners.

The messages and articles you can read and/or download are all submitted by other Miata owners in the forum, and cover a wide variety of subjects. A random sampling of some of the messages recently covered a full plate of Miata owner interests such as the `93 models, gearbox changes, new accessories and radios, tires, driving schools, rattles, bike racks and hitches, and even advice on how to remove your sun visors.

The fun part of the forum is being able to carry on a dialogue with other Miata owners around the country via the message board. No message ever goes unanswered, and even when someone comes up with an esoteric question or problem, there is always someone with an answer, related experience, or if nothing else, an opinion. Signing up for CompuServe is easy, and their rates are competitive with other on-line services. You can call 1-800-848-8199 to sign up or to get more information.

See you in Miataville!

2018 Spring Steeplechase

Once again President Tom is inviting any Masters Miata Club members who would like to attend the Aiken Spring Steeplechase on Saturday, March 24th, to share his rail spot, #471. The space can accommodate many people. There is one vehicle space already taken, but there is a second spot open for another MMC vehicle. There is plenty of FREE parking at the Bogardus house, which is a mere mile away from the track.

This is just an interest posting because as it stands Donna & I are the only ones possibly going. We don’t want Tom to do any preparation or set up of the site unless we have at least 3 or 4 additional people who would like to go.

So, please email Donna or myself, or comment on this post, by noon next Monday, March 12th if you would like to witness something like this:

And as tradition with any Club event, food will be involved. Perhaps even an adult beverage or two. 🙂

Club Business:
Dues for calendar year 2018 are due now. In fact they were due on 1 Jan, so please see Mike Dyer or any officer at your next meeting to get caught up. Thank you for your support!

Don Boltz has volunteered to plan a drive to Asheville and New Belguim Brewery in April in place of the dinner meeting (that won’t happen because of Masters). With an overnight on your own, if you choose. The brewery tour is a 90 min tour, tasting is free but requires a reservation. They open for tours at 11:30 Mon-Sat. He is thinking of leaving Friday, Apr 6th or Saturday, the 7th at 8am in order to arrive in time for the first tour. He’s planned a tentative route through Trenton, Johnston, Saluda, then I-26 to Asheville. It would be approximately a 3 hour drive. In Asheville near the brewery is an Artists Row, & Restaurants, of course the Biltmore House and Winery ($65-$70), the Wildlife Zoo, a Trolley Tour thru downtown Asheville, and the Blueridge Parkway.  Plenty to do.  If you decide to spend the night, accommodations are pricey in Asheville, but more reasonable outside Asheville.  If you are interested you must let Don & Kay know, so they have a count for the brewery tour.  Thanks Don for planning this!!

David Brock has planned the route for the Road Rally on April 21st.  This time it will be an urban/suburban drive and a slower pace and will take about an hour.  He has created a Facebook event page for this.  Search for Masters Miata.  We will start at Greg’s Gas Plus at SC Exit 1.

Last, Please remember to RSVP to our events – it makes it difficult for the planner if we don’t know how many will show – especially for smaller venues. Your RSVP is greatly appreciated, so please don’t forget.

New Business/Upcoming calendar events:
• Dennis is going to check into a better more professional looking name tag, worthy of our club, and will present his findings to the members for approval.
