25th Anniversary Dinner

Hello All!

At the last planning meeting it was decided that the 25th Anniversary Dinner would be held on Thursday 1 February – So I have scheduled it to be held at Rae’s Coastal Cafe.  I’m sorry it took me so long to let everyone know.  I have been looking for a private room.  As it turns out not very many places have one, in a restaurant that is reasonably priced.

As it turns out we don’t have a private room but we have a separate area (that is not closed off).  Rae’s Coastal Cafe is located at 3208 W. Wimbledon Dr. in Augusta.  It’s off Walton Way and is located in a Condominium Complex – So don’t think you’re lost when you find yourself in a condominium parking lot – keep on.

It’s a little gem of a place that has a good variety of food (with a Caribbean flair) with some higher end dishes and some a little more affordable but all are very good!

They will prepare some larger tables for us, we can select anything on the menu, we can be individually billed and there is no automatic gratuity – so tip your waiters well if they provide good service.  😉

Last, I’ve reserved for 30 people – but if we aren’t going to have that many present (I realize it is Thursday night), PLEASE RSVP by Tuesday (Jan 30th), at 5:00 so I can give the manager a closer count – so he doesn’t have to have more servers on staff that night if it’s not necessary.

Please RSVP to my personal phone – you can call or text at 706-631-0532.

Thanks so much and hope to see you there!!     Karol

January Meeting Minutes

Welcome to 2018!!

When: January 4th, 2018

Where: BJ’s country buffet, North Augusta

Who: Don and Kay Boltz, Mike and Shirley Dyer, Dennis and Karol Mason, Don and Cheri Nesbitt, Dan Prince, Leanne Shealy, Stacey Timmerman, Rolf and Annie Wilms.

Thanks to Tom for reserving the location for tonight’s meeting! Since Tom was in ‘Yankeeland’ he asked Dennis to run the meeting.

Treasurer’s Report: The club account started at $1425.82, we collected $156.00 in dues, spent $450.00 for the catered food at the Christmas party, leaving a balance of $1119.82.

Ongoing:
• Tom and Larry have business cards with the club website to handout to prospective Miata owners that may be interested in joining our club.
• See Dennis for name tags…
• New club merchandise is available: Pins are $3 each; “Support Vehicle” car magnets are $25 per pair, canvas tote/shopping bag $20 each. The 3” window stickers have come in and are available now.
Coffee mugs and other items are available from http://www.cafepress.com/masters_miata
Communigraphics in North Augusta has our logo, for $8 you can have it embroidered on just about anything.

Club Business:
• Dues for calendar year 2018 are due now. In fact they were due on 1 Jan, so please see Mike Dyer or any officer at your next meeting to get caught up. Thank you for your support!
• MMC 25th Anniversary Celebration Event planning is ongoing. Karol is asking for everyone’s input to make this event a success. We are looking into a restaurant that has a room where we can have privacy like Edgar’s Grille or Tin Lizzy’s Cantina. The best day to reserve the room would be Thursday February 1st. More info will be announced via e-mail and on the website.
• Voting on rewriting the by-laws is still an ongoing issue and needs your input, in the form of two votes prior to the next meeting February 1st, to get a quorum of the general membership to pass or fail the proposals that have been emailed out Wednesday January 3, 8:10 AM by Tom and reappear as follows:
1. Delete Article VI, Item C – “C. Only one individual of a multi-person membership shall hold an elected office during any term, unless approved by the general membership on a case-by-case basis.
2. ADD The following 2 Items to Article IX, Dues and Expenditures:
1) – Item D: “The Officers shall conduct the Club’s business such that the Club’s Checking
Account balance shall not drop below $600.”
2) – Item E: “The minimum account balance requirement of Item D may be waived, on a
case by case basis, by a quorum vote of the general membership.”
****As a note, Mike Dyer says the current bank requires a minimum balance of $300 to avoid charges, and Brian Bogardus says the current charge for the website is $100 per year.*****

• Don Boltz has volunteered to plan a drive to Asheville and New Belguim Brewery in April in place of the dinner meeting (that won’t happen because of Masters). Possibly overnight (or on your own). More to come as we get closer to April. Thanks Don!!
• Last, Please remember to RSVP to our events – it makes it difficult for the planner if we don’t know how many will show – especially for smaller venues. Your RSVP is greatly appreciated, so please don’t forget.

New Business/Upcoming calendar events:
• Dennis is going to check into a better more professional looking name tag, worthy of our club, and will present his findings to the members for approval.

Mazda Fights Distracted Driving

Because Mazda can’t convince everyone in the world to buy a Miata they are going to try and convince them to at least put down the phone and drive for fun.

Mazda Patent Bets That Fun Roads Will Prevent Driver Distraction
The patent filing shows that the vehicle would monitor driver inputs to the steering, throttle and brakes for the hallmarks of “enthusiastic driving” and store the location information of these roads in a database that it could then recall and suggest when a driver’s attention is flagging. The system would use internal cameras to help assess a driver’s level of distraction, which would result in a score. This score would trigger one of several variations of the Driving Assistance Program.
