Fiat Abarth 124 (Fiata)

With Fiat doing an Abarth Edition of the 124 (click here), can a tuned MazdaSpeed version of the Miata be far behind?

The European version of the Fiat Abarth 124 is already 170 hp, which means the US version will likely be a bit higher. Cool… And there’s even a rally version at nearly 300hp, but don’t look at the price (click here for a better article).

Aiken Steeplechase

Steeplechase Miata2

President Tom has offered the Miata Club the use of his inside rail spot (#471) for the 50th running of the Aiken Spring Steeplechase as he will be out of town that weekend. The space is 100′ long by 12′ wide and can easily accommodate 2 cars1 or trucks, a canopy/tent, and plenty of tailgating space. Tickets are $25 per person in advance2 and $40 on the day of the event.

You have a few parking options, a) get lucky and find a spot on the surrounding streets for free, b) pay to park on the polo field across the street from the venue $20 in advance and $30 on the day, or c) park at Brian & Donna’s house which is about a mile away.

Gates open at 9:00 AM with the first race going off at 1:00 PM. The 6th and last race starts at around 4:00 PM. Because this is pretty much an all day event, if you are going, please contact Dennis and/or Karol to work out some logistics.3

1. Probably a half dozen Miatas, but they will only let 2 vehicles in no matter their size.
2. Aiken Drug, Aiken Saddlery & Supply, Floyd & Green, H.Odell Weeks Center, Lominick Pharmacy, Parks Pharmacy (North Augusta), Plum Pudding, Southern Bank & Trust, Southern Saddlery, Unique Expressions, Birds & Butterflies & Ridgecrest Coffee Bar.
3. Who knows, if you have a pickup truck and volunteer to schlep stuff they may let you have one of the parking spots.
