Gala 20th Anniversary Dinner

Where: French Market Grill – map

The French Market Grille is located in Surrey Center, at 425 Highland Avenue, in Augusta, GA. We’ll have a semiprivate room so we can be our usual loud and raucous selves. Here is a link directly to the menu page, because their home page in kind of wonky and you can’t get there from there: MENU

10 Years Ago – January 2003

Anniversary Dinner

Date: Saturday, January 25, 2003

On January 30, 1993, at 3:00 in the afternoon, a small group of people met at the Gibbs Memorial Library in Evans, Georgia. There were twelve people present, all from different walks of life: different ages, different lifestyles and different tastes. The one thing they had in common was a love for their Miatas.

On January 25, 2003, at 7:00 in the evening, a small group of people met at #10 Downing Street in Aiken, South Carolina. There were twenty-five people present, all from different walks of life: different ages, different lifestyles and different tastes. The one thing they did have in common besides their Miatas was a love of good food.

Of the 12 founding members, two are still in the Club and both were in attendance, Kathleen Kennedy and Anita Wylds.

The Club had reserved the entire back room where a double fireplace blazed, putting out a nice and welcome bit of warm air on this chilly night. There were 4 tables scattered about, each set for eight. Each place contained a souvenir menu and a dizzying array of utensils and glassware.

Offered up for our palette’s delight was a shared appetizer plate at each table – filled with instantly recognizable, semi-recognizable and who knows what food items. A delightful garden salad followed. The main course consisted of your choice of: sea bass, a pork or a beef tenderloin. I can’t speak for the pork, but my beef was wonderful and the bite of bass I had, melted in your mouth leaving behind smiling taste buds. Dessert was your choice of cobbler with ice cream or a sabayon.

I wonder where we will all be in January 2013?

A Dinner, A Meeting & Some Bug Splatting

Place: Red Bowl Asian Bistro in Aiken, SC – map

The Red Bowl is at 2645 Whiskey Road about a half mile south of the mall just past Target. With a name that includes the word Asian in its name you can guess what kind of food they serve, so check out their menu for something you might like. A word to the wise, after you taste the pan seared pot sticker appetizer you will want to change your dinner meal to a second order of them…

After eating and a brief meeting we will take an approximately 29 mile drive around some darkening roads hopefully knocking insects out of the night air with the noses of our Miatas. The drive will finish at the Sonic, 1187 Knox Ave, North Augusta, SC and there your Event Coordinator will give away awards in various categories, including: Biggest Bug, Most Bugs, etc.
