November Meeting Minutes

Where: Little Mexico Restaurant in North Augusta
When: November 4, 2010
Who: Bill & Bonnie Baugh, Brian & Donna Bogardus, Larry & Rita Garner, John & Jackie Nicholls, David & Autumn Schumacher and Patti & Rudy Wilmoth.

  • TREASURER’S REPORT: $1,374.42
  • OLD BUSINESS:

    1. Past Events:
      1. On a chilly October morning the monthly Breakfast Event attracted 4 people in 2 cars.
  • NEW BUSINESS:

    1. Upcoming Events:
      1. Brian and Donna will be leading the Leaf Peeping rally. Drive starts at 8:00AM Saturday the 6th from the Augusta Cracker Barrel (I-20 Exit 194.) Optionally, join them for breakfast there at 7:00AM.
      2. November’s Breakfast will be arranged by Dave Winkler. There are no details on the web page yet, so the Secretary will call Mr. Winkler and remind him of this obligation.
      3. Rudy & Patti have agreed to host the Club’s annual Christmas Party. It will be Saturday, December 11th with a start time of 6:30PM. Planned dining will be heavy hors d’oeuvres and Patti will email the group at a later date to see who will attend and what they will be bringing.
    2. Due to the recent access and speed issues with the free web host we were using the Executive Board decided that being the first class club we are, we deserved a first class web host. We purchased the domain name mastersmiataclub.com and three years of hosting from GoDaddy.com and the new site should be operational by the end of this weekend.
    3. New business cards with the new web address will be forth coming. Keep using the old ones for now, as the mastersmiata.uphero.com site will be redirected to our new domain.
    4. Patti said she would look into finding a spot for a December Brunch to replace the usual 3rd Saturday Breakfast Rally.
    5. Our previous name badge supplier is no longer in business, so Bonnie agreed to try and find another. A chance for a redesign maybe.
    6. The CD under the windshield wiper as a Club advertisement may still become a reality as an option to the business card.
  • MISCELLANEOUS:

    1. The Schumachers will be attending the Miatas in the Ozarks in Eureka Springs, Arkansas next May and suggested that if anyone else was thinking about attending this great event, should probably register soon as it is limited to only 120 cars.

The meeting was adjourned.

A short meeting to discuss any old business and/or new business before we get on to the real reason we are gathered today – food, drink and gifts.

Club Christmas Party

Place: 3050 Otter Ct, Martinez, GA – map

This year’s Club Christmas Party will be held at the home of Rudy & Patti Wilmoth and will start promptly after the short Monthly Club Meeting. Because the Wilmoth’s kitchen space is limited, food this year will consist of Heavy Hors d’oeuvre. Please RSVP by phone (706-650-0653) or email by Monday, December 6th.

Don’t forget to bring an inexpensive gift for the annual gift swaperoo.

October Miatas For Breakfast

A nice chilly fall morning was the perfect start for our 35 minute drive to Breakfast at Autens in Aiken. Auten’s meet all of our Miata breakfast criteria and the food and service were outstanding. Attending were The Bogardi & The Wilmoths.

Obligatory Miata Line-up at the SC Welcome Center.

October Meeting Minutes

Where: Little Mexico Restaurant in North Augusta
When: October 7, 2010
Who: Brian & Donna Bogardus, John & Jackie Nicholls, David & Autumn Schumacher and Rudy Wilmoth.

Treasurer’s Report: $1,533.57

OLD BUSINESS:

  1. So far on the Presidents goal to double the Club membership he is down two and up four and we still have one couple that hasn’t renewed yet. They think they may have already mailed the check, but maybe sent it to the wrong address…

PAST EVENTS:

  1. The Club President and the First Lady led the Club to breakfast on the 14th of September to the Home Cafe, appropriately, in Washington (GA not DC.) After eating, most folks went for a walk around the quaint downtown and lingered at the Farmer’s Market there.
  2. The Swamp Tour was great fun, as was the dinner beforehand at the Garners. The $5 a head fee for meal costs didn’t quite cover everything, so a motion was made, seconded and passed to mail Larry and Rita a check for $50 for the overage.

FUTURE EVENTS:

  1. The October (16th) Breakfast is being arranged by the Wilmoths. The plan is to meet at the South Carolina Welcome Center and leave for Auten’s in Aiken at 7:30 AM. So get there a few minutes early. Or if you like, just meet at the restaurant at 8:00 AM.
  2. The Bogardi will be doing a Leaf Peeping Tour on Saturday the 6th of November. The group will be leaving the Cracker Barrel in Augusta at 8:00 AM. There will be an optional pre-drive breakfast there starting at 7:00 AM.
  3. Last years hosts, the Schumachers, will not be in town on the date of this year’s Christmas Party and they wouldn’t give us the keys, so we have to find another venue. Donna agreed to find a volunteer.

NEW BUSINESS:

  1. John Nicholls brought up the possibility of creating a CD Flier. Instead of the usual business card we could leave a CD under the windshield wiper of the random Miatas that Club members stumble upon in parking lots around the CSRA. It would consist of driving songs except for the first track, which would be an audio announcement from the President describing the Club and how to find us. This sounded like a great idea, now all we have to do is pick out which songs to include…
  2. Dave then asked one more time for volunteers to fill the Breakfast/Dinner Coordinator & Membership Coordinator. After a brief discussion and no volunteers, we moved onto the next item, advertising.
  3. Brian had zero luck getting the meetings listed with the Augusta Chronicle online calendar. He filled out the form, but nothing ever appeared online. He got no response to a follow up email or a follow up phone call. Dave had more luck with the Coupon Mailer Company. They take care of the printing and mailing and offer help with design and artwork. The CSRA is divided into 10 GA zones and 3 SC zones and it costs $300-400 a zone. At that level, just one zone would eat through most of the proposed $500 budget, making it cost prohibitive for us without a little help. On that front Dave met the same fate as Brian, his calls to the General Manager of Gerald Jones Mazda were avoided or unanswered.
  4. Dave mentioned that he was having issues getting to the Club web site. After some conversation it was determined that it might be the settings of his Norton Internet Security Suite. This has been an issue with a couple of other members and it is because we are using a site that offers free web space. Brian was asked to look into the cost of getting our own domain on our own web host for the next meeting.
  5. We then talked a little about an idea Dave had that he called Micro-Vacs. The idea is to plan a trip to a spot that was not too far away, like Washington, GA or Greenville, SC. They could be over nighters for some or just a day trip for those with less time or money because the destinations were close enough to allow returning home the same day.

The meeting was adjourned.
