10 Years Ago This Month – March 2000

Tech Day

Date: Saturday, March 25, 2000
Time: 10:00 AM
Place: Georgia Welcome Center
Members Attending: Janice Alster, J.R. Alster, Larry Alster, Bill Baugh, Kurt Breitinger, Jim Creer, Carol Haff, John Haff, Ernest van Horn and Rudy Wilmoth.

Kurt met the other seven cars full of Club members at the Welcome Center. Also there were prospective member Lee Davis (who was there for the event) and a couple in a 10AE (who couldn’t stay, but wanted to say hi.) He had originally not planned a drive, but his wife Karen convinced him otherwise. It was finally really spring, so a drive before fixing subs and Miatas was definitely a good thing.

After a brief road ride the caravan was met at the Breitinger home by Karen (who stayed behind to put the finishing touches on the food), Judy Creer (who came in a separate car so she could carry food while Jim carried the tools) and Brian and Donna Bogardus (who were running too late to meet at the Welcome Center.)

Maybe we should have called this a Sub Day instead of Tech Day, as of the ten cars gathered only three actually did anything remotely resembling technical. Larry installed one of those nifty instrument clusters from Japan that makes it look like each gage is a separate unit into ‘Honey B,’ his wife Janice’s sunburst yellow. It also has separate and different colored lights for the turn signals, high beams, etc, very retro/race car looking. John installed one of those new under-a-’Cnote’ front Strut Tower Braces from Rspeed. And Brian replaced his broken glove box latch. Jim Creer was severely disappointed that no one wanted to tear apart their engine or something. He had brought his big breaker bar and couldn’t entice anyone to even change their differential fluid.

Kurt and Karen put on quite a spread of food for sub fixings. Everyone else also brought along even more food to eat. Those of you Club members who don’t normally come to our events need to make a showing at these medieval feasts, as I’m starting to show the effects in my waistline eating yall’s share.
