August Meeting Minutes

Where: Little Mexico Restaurant in North Augusta
When: August 5, 2010
Who: Bill & Bonnie Baugh, Brian & Donna Bogardus, John & Jackie Nicholls, David & Autumn Schumacher, Denny Smith, Rudy & Patti Wilmoth and Dave Winkler.

Treasurer’s Report: $1,233.57, and as a side note the Treasurer reported that he had successfully changed our account type from plain Business to Free Business, so there will no longer be a $10 a month fee when the balance is below $1,000.

  1. July’s Breakfast Trip was a rousing success. We had 15 people in 9 cars take the lovely drive to quiet Edgefield for a buffet breakfast. After eating, drinking lots of coffee and gabbing, the crowd scattered to the four winds to their Saturday chores.

Future Events:

  1. The August breakfast will be on the 21st. The event coordinators at the Wilmoth’s, not the Nicholls as the web page had stated (now corrected.)
  2. The following Saturday, the 28th, is the Annual Bug Splat Rally. There is a new route this year, it will start in Aiken and end in North Augusta, to avoid the one lane only over the dam in the middle of the usual route. Denny Smith the current Big Bug Trophy holder said he would be there to defend his title.

  1. The President had sent out an email request to see if anyone had the old Club banner and if they did, would they bring it to the meeting. Turns out Rudy had it, he blew the dust off and gave it to David.

  1. Our new President suggested a change in the format of our monthly meetings. They would still be on the first Thursday, just a little earlier and always at the Little Mexico Restaurant (where we were meeting right then.) After the usually quick business meeting, we would drive as a group to a local restaurant that was chosen by that month’s meeting coordinator and kept secret until the business meeting. There ensued quite a bit of chatter about bylaws, Robert’s Rules of Order, secret locations, length of meetings, final eating of dinner times and why.

The why of one place for meeting was so you always knew when and *where* it would be, to make it simple to get the word out. This particular place was chosen because it is somewhat central to the membership and it was on a busy road, so the exposure of lots of Miatas parked there might get passers by to think, “Hey that must be a Club.” The drive together after the meeting was another idea to get the Club some more exposure, as a conga line of shiny sports cars driving around the area would surely stick out amongst the regular traffic. The mystery restaurant was so that folks had to come to the meeting to find out where the real feeding frenzy was going to be.

A motion was made, a summery of the motion was made and then seconded. A call for further discussion then led to removing the mystery portion of the final dinner restaurant. A vote was called for and the motion passed, four yeahs, two nays and one abstention.

  2. David also suggested added two new positions in the Club, a) Membership Coordinator who would keep the member database among other things and b) Dining Wrangler whose job would be to keep track of the persons who were assigned to arranging the Club breakfast and dinner outings.

The meeting was adjourned, we paid our drink/snack tabs and gathered outside for the driver’s meeting.

Respectfully submitted:
Donna Bogardus
Club Secretary
