    3. If you can break away from work or your stories, don’t forget the BMW Ultimate Drive will be on Tuesday, March 25th at Taylor BMW in Martinez/Evans. Drive high dollars car with no restrictions besides your conscience for a good cause.
  3. In this month’s 50-50 raffle Donna Bogardus was the big winner taking home the cash while Rita Garner won a Zoom Zoom T-shirt and a keychain.

Dues Change Proposal

At the last meeting there was a proposal to eliminate dues which we tabled for further action.

After reviewing the bylaws, I see that in order to change the dues we’d need to amend the bylaws, which requires a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the general membership (at any regular meeting or by mail ballot provided such amendment shall be read to the membership one meeting prior to the vote). No big deal, but something that should be considered by all of our members.

In order to solicit discussion and comment, I’m asking for members to post comments here, not only about eliminating the dues, but about reducing or keeping the dues unchanged. If we decide to make a change, we’ll need to work out (later) exactly what the change will be. Foe example we might eliminate dues but begin changing a one-time initiation fee.

To determine if a majority of the voting members in favor of any one option, I’m asking for an informal vote prior to our next meeting. Whenever you have enough information to make an informed decision, please let me know by email what option you prefer: raise the dues, keep them unchanged, reduce the dues, or eliminate them altogether. Members who do not express a preference will be tallied in favor of keeping the dues unchanged. I’ll initiate the formal bylaw change process based upon the results of this poll.

Your President, John Nicholls

February Meeting Minutes

Where: Athens Restaurant in Augusta, GA
When: February 7, 2008
Who: Charlotte & Jim Avant, Donna & Brian Bogardus, John Bowles, Gail & Miller Butler, Carol Haff, Jackie & John Nicholls, Dave Schumacher, Stacey & Cindy Timmerman, Patti & Rudy Wilmoth and Dave Winkler.

Treasurer’s Report: $1,564.56

  1. The fruits of last month’s planning meeting has now been fully uploaded to the Club web page.
  2. Past events were reviewed:
    1. The January breakfast in Saluda was attended by just two cars. Attendance was limited by the threatened wintery weather. Too bad as the food was reported as great by the 4 folks who went.
    2. The impromptu Game Night never got off the ground.
  3. Future events were previewed:
    1. The February breakfast will be in downtown Augusta on the 16th at the New Moon Cafe on Broad street.
    2. John Bowles discussed the future of the Elmcroft Senior drives. He was worried about the insurance issues if anything were to happen to a resident while on the drive. Elmcroft’s insurance is only effect when the residents are riding in the Center’s bus. The Club has no event insurance, so everything would have to fall under the umbrella of the driver’s insurance. After some back and forth it was agreed to table this issue for a future meeting.
    3. The Anniversary Dinner Committee Chair presented the Club with a dizzying array of choices of where we might attend, what we might eat, how much we might spend doing it and what night we might do it. After a long discussion (for us anyway) we agreed on the place, 6th at Watkins in Augusta, the date, Leap Night February 29th and how much the Club would rebate the attendees, $15 each. A letter would be sent to everyone in the Club so they could RSVP, mark menu choices and return a check for their meal cost.
  4. There was a 50-50 raffle, but the Secretary didn’t write down the results, so the following is the best recollection of a mind that suffered way too many concussions on the pee-wee football field: Charlotte Avant won (again) and took the $12 cash. There were 3 runner up prizes and they went to Gail Miller, John Nicholls and Cindy Timmerman.
  5. We had a guest in attendance, Larry Garner, who soon became a member. He and his wife Rita own a 1997 Montego Blue, so say Hi when you see them next.

The President reminded the assembled that the March meeting was at the Asian Buffet in North Augusta and then turned us loose.
