BMW Ultimate Drive

It is time again for the BMW Ultimate Drive for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here is a link to the event site: Ultimate Drive. You can reserve up to two cars and a time to drive them, but even if there is nothing left to reserve, if you just show up and hang around you should be able to drive something whenever there is a free car.

The tour will be at Taylor BMW in Augusta (30909) on Tuesday, March 25th. Donna and I are planning on taking the afternoon off to go drive BMWs for a good cause. If you don’t want to take time off from work to drive, you will also have a chance for a Saturday on the 29th, if you wouldn’t mind driving to Century BMW in Greenville, SC (29601). The tour will be back later in the year at Hancock BMW in Columbia (29201) on Tuesday, December 9th.

Here is a link to pictures and a link to my long winded blog post about our last year’s drive.

Time – Speed – Distance Rally

Where: Somewhere in the CSRA at a specific location to be determined.

Nicholls and Butlers will be developing another TSD Rally, and all Miata Club members are invited. It’ll be another leisurely drive thru lovely spring countryside ending with an award luncheon, but many other aspects will be totally different from years past. We’ll have two versions of the route instructions: One will be challenging for those of you who are up for the thrill of getting lost, and an easier version for teams who enjoy a stress free Saturday morning non-adventure. There may be another set of route instructions of “intermediate” difficulty, depending upon how energetic jackie feels. We’ll publicize details as they become available, but current thinking is to start out around 9:00 AM from somewhere in Georgia. The rally may be canceled if fewer than eight cars register. We’ll need to know by April 19 if you’ll be coming, and which course you’d like to run. Come on out and try your luck.

February Miatas For Breakfast

We had a pretty good turn out of 6 cars and the twelve of us stretched the limits of their cook staff. The heat up items (bagels, biscuits & muffins) arrived way before the breakfast sandwiches with eggs, etc. did. After eating a few of us went to north North Augusta to tour the recently framed new home of the Schumachers.

Anniversary Banquet Update #3 – It’s 27 for the 29th!

Friday, February 29th
6:30 p.m. until ?

6th at Watkins

559 Watkins St.

Augusta, GA 30901

I have now had an RSVP from all club members. Thank you!

Unfortunately, one of our members has encountered a change of plans, but he says:

Since I’ve pre-paid, I would like to offer my 2 dinners (Flounder) for a potential recruit or for someone who originally declined, but now can go. For a guest or potential member, this would be my gift (I would like the $30 however). For a member, I would appreciate being reimbursed, but if your finances are tight, consider it a gift.

This would be a great time to invite a potential new member and show them a good time. Please let Dave S. know (although I have submitted a count of 27 to the restaurant, I am sure they’ll accommodate a couple more if it’s not to late – First come first serve, contact me ASAP with your info.)

UPDATED Final Entrée box scores:

The Beef wins with 10, just ahead of Flounder @ 9 with Chicken bringing up the tail @ 8.

Looks like we got a lot of dessert splitters and straw-sharers as we’re about at 17 each for desserts and beverages.

I’ll ask that dinner be served around 7:00. I’ll bring part of the form you filled out and returned to serve as a cue card for our servers, so you won’t have to remember what you ordered.

So spiff dose cars, shine ‘dem shoes, don them fancy duds and get ready to party!

At the last club meeting, Dave Schumacher presented the results of his search for a banquet venue. The meeting attendees looked over available dates, prospective menus, discussed prices and the club subsidy and ultimately decided to move the banquet to February 29th.

On Monday 02/11, Dave mailed each club member an information packet with a sign-up form that must be returned to him ASAP, postmarked no later than February 18. He must provide a count of entrées to the restaurant a week or so in advance. If you have any questions about the packet please contact Dave.

Club Electronic Mailbox

This last week we received 64 pieces of email in the Club inbox. Sixty one of them were spam. The three meaningful ones were:

1. An announcement of a regional Miata Pow Wow in Cherokee, NC put on by the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce on the first weekend in May. For more information see the event’s web site: www.CherokeeSmokies.com

2. An announcement of a regional Miata meet in Eureka Springs, AK put on by the Northwest Arkansas Miata Club on the second weekend in June. For more info see the event’s web site: www.miatasateureka.com

3. Confirmation that Mazda has received our request for a Zoom-Zoom Box for this year. “Zoom-Zoom boxes will be shipped approximately 60 days prior to the date of your event.” Seeing as I used the TSD Rally in April as our “Event” we should be seeing the box later this month.

4. I’m bored with the green look of the site and am thinking of changing the color scheme around here. Any suggestions? Leave a comment…
