Updated: Miatas for Breakfast – August

When: Saturday, August 18

Time: 7:00 – 9:00

Where: Ruth’s Family Restaurant

3843 Washington Rd

Augusta, GA (706) 863-5616

Join us at Ruth’s Family Restaurant for breakfast. It’s on Washington Rd. west of I-20 almost to the Bobby Jones, on the right side of the road. The sign is kinda small and the parking lot is gravel, mostly. But the food is great. We’ll be in the small room all the way at the right end of the main dining room. Hope to see everyone then. We have returned from our summer travels at last.
Breakfast Etiquette: Order Breakfast, Sit Where We Fit, Tip your Waitstaff, Defer to “Regulars.”

Warner Robins/Museum of Aviation Tour

This will be a one day out and back trip to the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins, GA and
include lunch, a guided tour of the museum, roaming time, and an evening meal prior to returning
home.

Details:
This will be an opportunity for all frustrated and want-a-be aviators to get up close to the real
flying machines. The Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins, GA has a collection of vintage and historical aircraft that have been constructed or restored to pristine condition. There are more than 90 aircraft, from the early 1896 glider to the Mach 3 SR-71 . This facility is not an old hanger converted to a dusty hot warehouse for old dilapidated aircraft but a group of buildings designed from the ground up to be a first class place to showcase aircraft. Aircraft are on display inside as well as outdoors. The air-conditioned facilities also have displays of equipment and uniforms that show the evolution from crude to sophisticated items of the modern air force. You can see more details at the museum web site. Admission is free, however the tour is $2.50/person.

As of 7/29/07 three clubs are interested in participating: Peachtree Miata Club, Masters Miata
Club, and Middle Georgia Miata Club. If someone knows of another club interested in joining the
group, contact Dave Winkler the sponsor of the tour.

Bowling Canceled

The original Rally Master is going to be out of town, so a call went out for a substitute. There were rumblings that someone was going to take the reins, but nothing or no one ever materialized. So you will have to “Beat the Heat” in your own little way. Next up is the August Meeting next Thursday the 2nd.

July Meeting Minutes

Attendees: Donna & Brian Bogardus, Gail & Miller Butler, Jackie & John Nicholls, Dave Schumaker, Denny Smith, Patti & Rudy Wilmoth, and Dave & Bobbie Winkler

Treasurer’s Report: $1,283.49

Business:

  1. Past events were reviewed:
    • The Pool Party was splasherific.
    • The Trenton Parade was peachy.
  2. Dave Schumacher regrets that he can no longer offer the “Beat the Heat” bowling event on July 28th as he will be out of town. If someone wants to step up and shepherd this event Dave would be happy to give you what he has worked out already.
  3. Another causality is this month’s breakfast, but the Nicholls have taken over this event. For details, see HERE.
  4. John Nicholls has produced some flyers for advertising the Club that we can use to put under windshield wipers of Miatas we stumble on in our daily lives. He was soliciting changes and or improvements at this meeting. A couple of suggestions were made and he is going to have them available for distribution at the next meeting and thereafter.
  5. Brian unveiled the “New & Improved” 50/50 raffle at tonight’s meeting. Instead of the usual one winner getting half the money collected, he has added a second winner to the mix. At each meeting he will bring an item from our recently received Mazda Goodie Box to offer as an additional prize. Because all goodies are not created equal, the first ticket pulled will have the option of taking the 50% or the prize. The second ticket pulled will get the leftover. July’s winners were Rudy & Patti ($10) and Gail & Miller (Zoom-Zoom black & gray baseball jersey.)
  6. If you are planning on going on the Gold Rush Days Trip in October you better get that cabin rental reserved now.
